The extent to which these men study their history and
the writings and speeches of their characters is amazing.
Their performances reflected a deep and thorough
understanding, not only of the characters themselves, but
the world in which they lived.
Possibly the greatest line of the evening was
delivered by Mr. Madison, who closed his remarks with
a story about some advice his father had given him. The
elder Madison had cautioned his son about entering into
political frays in which he might face strong opposition.
“It’s the early bird that gets the worm,” he recalled
his father saying. “But it’s the second mouse that gets the
cheese.”
I can hardly wait for next year.
