Tucked under the wings of
Halesford Baptist Church on Booker
T Washington Highway in Hardy, is
the dream of a handful of Westlake
residents.
The “dream” came true five
years ago when the Smith Mountain
Lake Christian Academy opened
its doors to 20 students in grades 1
through 7. Today, there are 75 students
going to the school which now includes
grades preKindergarten through 11th.
The potential growth for future years
is even more promising, says Kay
McCoy, retired board member .
But, this story isn’t about the
success of the school. It’s about a team
of students within the school, who call
themselves The Lego League.
