Resurrection Catholic Church presented the second
annual “Alex Ernandes Memorial Messenger of Faith
Award” on June 30th, 2013 at the 4:00pm Mass. The
“Messenger of Faith Award” is an annual award that is
presented to an outstanding young person who exemplifies
Christ-like behavior. Each year the recipient’s name is
added to a memorial plaque that hangs in the church
lobby and is given a $500 award.
The “Messenger of Faith Award” committee had a very
difficult job to do this year in deciding who would receive
this year’s award. The committee spent much time in
prayer, discernment, and conversation with Catechists,
parishioners, friends and family members of the young
people within our parish in order to make a decision.
This year’s “Messenger of Faith Award” went to Jennifer
Bisnett. Jennifer is an outstanding young person who we
have seen grown deeply in her faith over the
last few years. She’s gone on 2 mission trips where she
spent time building handicap ramps and repairing homes
for needy families. She’s also attended Diocesan retreats
and has been one of the peer leaders on this past year’s
Discovery Retreat. Christ can truly be seen shinning
through her smiling her face.
Next Spring the “Alex Ernandes Memorial Messenger
of Faith Award” will be open to any middle or high
school student in the Smith Mountain Lake area.
Recommendations for the award need to come through
your local church. All letters of recommendation should
be addressed to Resurrection Catholic Church c/o Melissa
