Lights in the Attic
Your eccentric old uncle has died and left you his house, providing that you can pass a test. If you do,
the house is yours. If you fail, the will specifies that the house shall be sold, and the proceeds donated
to the old curmudgeon’s alma mater as an endowment.
The house has a walk-up attic, in which there are three plain bare bulb light fixtures mounted to
the rafters. Near the foot of the attic stairs, there are three light switches on the wall. Each switch
controls one of the individual lights.None of the lights can be seen from the location of the switches.
You are permitted to make one trip upstairs to the attic. Once up there, you must correctly match
each light to the switch that controls it. Can you do it?
