Blackwater
BOWHUNTERS
Blackwater Bowhunters started out as a
group of folks who wanted to form a club
devoted to archery and bow hunting. They
soon outgrew their original location in the
backyard of one of the founding members,
and they found a new home on some
leased land along BTW Highway.
The organization suffered a reversal of
fortune after losing that lease in 2001, and
along with it, a fair number of members.
Forced to relocate to new digs on Foxfire
Rd, some 30 members remained. Their
ranks diminished to as few as 10 in 2006,
when again they lost the use of the land,
requiring yet another move. This move
proved costly, as it resulted in the loss,
presumably by theft, of thousands of
dollars worth of 3-D targets. Ultimately,
the club bounced back, settling in on land
belonging to one of the members. Their
ranks swelled almost immediately from 10
to 40, and by the end of 2007, Blackwater
Bowhunters boasted a membership in
excess of 70.
Today, the organization routinely
engages in many types of community
outreach.They offer instruction in archery
for a number of groups and organizations.
Regardless of whether it’s to pursue
