Passengers
lands in
theaters. This film stars
Jennifer Lawrence and
Chris Pratt as two travelers
onboard a spaceship to
another world, but are
woken up early before
everyone else on the ship.
Jennifer Lawrence and
Chris Pratt have proven to
be powerhouse actors on
their own, so casting them together in this film
seems like the perfect match. This movie is an
interesting blend of Sci-Fi, Romance, Action, and
some Comedy, so it should be fun to watch these
two A-list actors take on the perils of space.
Moving on to February 10
th
,
John Wick: Chapter 2
blasts
into theaters. The first
John
Wick
film was a surprising
hit, thanks to its hardcore
and entertaining action.
Now Keanu Reeves is back
once again as the titular
protagonist who is ready to
face off some of the world’s
deadliest hit men. Reeves
does not look like he’s slowing
down one bit in this sequel,
so expect
John Wick: Chapter
2
to have more, if not a lot
more, of the same over-the-
top action and entertainment
as the first one.
On December 21
st
,
Assassin’s Creed
dives into cinemas. Based
on the hit video game of the same name,
Assassin’s Creed
is yet
another attempt to make a movie franchise based on a video
game series. With the fairly successful release of
Warcraft
a
couple of months back, fans expect
Assassin’s Creed
to take
video game movies to the next level. The look and style of the
movie already mirrors the games very well, along with plenty
of excellent stunt work and parkour action. With a lot to prove,
Assassin’s Creed
will have to take a leap of faith in the end to
see if it will soar or fall.
On January 20

,
The Founder
drives into theaters. This film stars Michael
Keaton as Ray Kroc, the man who helped turn a small burger joint known as
McDonald’s into a multi-billion dollar empire. Judging from the trailer alone,
Michael Keaton looks like he is going to steal the show playing the cutthroat
salesman Ray Kroc.
The Founder
looks like it’s going to be treat for any
fans of biography films, and will give an inside look at the savage world of
business and what it takes to make it to the top.
On December 23

,
Why Him?
comes to theaters just in time
for Christmas. The movie stars
Bryan Cranston, who meets his
daughter’s boyfriend Laird, played
by James Franco, and attempts to
break off their relationship before
Laird can propose to her. Bryan
Cranston is a fantastic comedic
actor and he looks to be in top
form again in this film. Cranston
and Franco already look like they
have great chemistry, so we will
see if
Why Him?
can become
another Holiday classic.
And finally, also on
February 10
th
,
The
Lego Batman Movie
swings
into cinemas. Will Arnett
stars once again as the
blocky Caped Crusader
after having played the
character in
The Lego
Movie
. The visuals for this
movie look just as stellar
as its predecessor, and the
comedy looks to bring the
laughs to everyone in the
family. With new cast members
such Rosario Dawson, Zach Galifianakis, and
Ralph Finnes lending their voices, the
Lego
Batman Movie
looks like it has the building
blocks for a hit film.
Starting off on December 16
th
,
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
flies into theaters.
This film is the first of a series of Star Wars spinoff films, and
Rogue One
takes
place right before the original Star Wars begins. In this, we follow a small group
of rebels who set out to steal plans for the Empire’s greatest weapon: the Death
Star! Expectations for this film are very high, but it looks this one will deliver what
fans are asking for. With a solid cast, incredible visual effects, and an extra dose of
nostalgia,
Rogue One
looks to be an exciting return the galaxy far, far, away.
As the New Year arrives,
Live by Night
arrives as well on January 13
th
. This film is
directed by and stars Ben Affleck, and is based on the book by Dennis Lehane.
Set during the Prohibition, the film follows Joe Coughlin, the son of a Boston
police officer who becomes a bootlegger and eventual gangster. Ben Affleck
has had good track record for directing ever since the release of
The Town,
and
Live by Night
hopes to continue his winning record. With a great lineup of stars
such as Sienna Miller, Zoe Saldana, and Chris Cooper
alongside Affleck himself,
Live by Night
hopes to own
the spotlight early in the new year.
